Nashville
Known as the Music City and the country-music capital of the world, Nashville is the state's capital city. In 1806, it was incorporated as a city and became the county seat of Davidson County, Tennessee. In 1843, the city was named the permanent capital of the state of Tennessee. In addition to being the home to the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame, Nashville is a leading center of higher education and is known as the Athens of the South with its 16 colleges and universities, two medical schools, two law schools, and six graduate business schools.
